Samsung will take the wraps off the company’s first foldable smartphone at its own developer conference in November, according to a new report.

Today’s news corroborates previous leaks pointing to a November launch for the device, which could hit the market as Galaxy X.

The Korea Herald cites sources familiar with the matter as saying that the foldable smartphone would make its first appearance at the Samsung Developer Conference in San Francisco and taking place on November 7 and November 8.

“Before the foldable smartphone hits shelves early next year, Samsung is expected to unveil details of the hardware specifications, design, user interface and user exchange at the conference,” the source was quoted as saying.

There are several unanswered questions right now, but according to the cited publication, the foldable smartphone would feature a 7.3-inch OLED display that can be folded inward with a curvature radius of 1.5 mm. Furthermore, Samsung’s device also includes an additional 4.6-inch OLED display that will be installed on one side of the phone.

Huawei planning foldable phone next month too

Samsung is said to be in a rush to take the wraps off the foldable smartphone in order to become the pioneer of this market category, but at the same time, to maintain its innovation level as high as possible.

Furthermore, Samsung hopes that by unveiling its foldable phone in early November it can maintain its dominance over rival Huawei, which also plans to launch a similar device next month.

Samsung’s developer conference will witness the introduction of several other devices, including a Galaxy Home AI speaker that would compete against the likes of HomePod and Google Home.

What’s yet to be confirmed is whether Samsung plans to also begin sales of the foldable smartphone next month or only showcase the device to developers ahead of a later launch. Originally, it was believed the device would go on sale in early 2019.
