Company promises more updates for the sensor

Galaxy S10 is the first Samsung model that comes with a fingerprint sensor embedded into the glass, technically making it possible for you to unlock the device by simply touching the display in the correct place.

But as many found out the hard way, the fingerprint reader isn’t as accurate and fast as they expected, as it sometimes fails to unlock the device or needs more time to complete the scanning.

This was one of the biggest complaints in my Samsung Galaxy S10 review, and as I said when I tried out the device, the South Korean company just needs to refine its performance with more updates as fast as possible.

More updates on their way

And as it turns out, Samsung itself got the message and is now working on more updates that would improve the fingerprint sensor. Of course, there’s no ETA available right now, but updates will land at some point in the future, according to a company official speaking with the Korea Herald.

“There can be many occasions where users find the fingerprint scanner doesn’t work well, for example, when you are in a dry environment, or when your finger skin is really dry, or when you have a scratch on your fingerprint,” a Samsung official was quoted as saying.

“The accuracy has been improved through the first update of software recently just in one week since the launch, and we will continue providing updates to make the scanner work better.”

The first update released to the Galaxy S10 substantially improved the speed and accuracy of the fingerprint sensor, and if the same trend is maintained, the reader should become a much more reliable feature in the coming weeks. What’s also worth keeping in mind is that the Galaxy S10 ships with a screen protector pre-installed, so the performance of the fingerprint sensor is slightly affected.
