All thanks to massive growth in April 2022, it seems

The global smartphone market declined no more, no less than 8 percent in April 2022 as compared to the same month a year ago, but on the other hand, Samsung actually enjoyed a very impressive month.

According to Counterpoint Research, Samsung’s market share increased 9 percent year over year, and when you put this on paper, you get the highest market share of the South Korean phone maker in no less than 5 years.

That’s right, Samsung has returned to a level that it last reached back in 2017, also thanks to an impressive performance in India, where it re-became the number one brand for the first time since August 2020.

New Samsung foldables on the way

In case you’re wondering, Samsung now has 24 percent global market share, according to Counterpoint, while rival Apple is well behind with 15 percent. Xiaomi is third with 12 percent.

“Samsung captured close to one-fourth of the global smartphone market in April 2022, reaching its highest single-month share in the last five years. This was driven by the strong performance of the S22 series in the premium segment and the A series in the mid-segment,” Research Director Tarun Pathak said.

“Samsung also had low exposure to the declining China market, which negatively affected sales of all Chinese OEMs. Promotions in some of Samsung’s core markets like Latin America and growth in India, where it became the No.1 brand in April, also helped in expanding its market share during the month. Samsung’s supply chain management through 2022 has also been robust, successfully catering to the demand.”

It remains to be seen if Samsung manages to continue this solid performance, but with new model launches coming in the summer, including a new lineup of foldables, there’s a chance the South Korean company has what it takes to continue dominating the market.
