Samsung unveiled the new W2019 specifically designed for the Chinese market, a flagship phone and a curious combination of a classic clamshell format and a modern touchscreen smartphone.

Although most people thought that flip phones are a thing of the past, the clamshell format seems to work given that you will be able to use the device as a run-of-the-mill smartphone when it is folded and as a vintage phone with a number-based dial pad once the W2019 is unfolded.

The W2019 is powered by an eight-core 10nm Snapdragon 845 system on a chip (SoC) which, coupled with 6 GB of RAM, should provide the users with enough power to run an Android 8.1 Oreo OS with Samsung own user interface on top.

Moreover, the Samsung W2019 has two 4,2-inch 1920 x 1080 Super AMOLED 16 million colors screens, and two cameras, a 12 MP rear one with an F1.5/F2.4 intelligent variable aperture and auto-focus, and an 8 MP front camera with an F2.0 aperture.

When it comes to the phone's connectivity, the W2019 has all possible radios, from GPS and 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac 2.4+5GHz Wi-Fi to NFC and Bluetooth 4.2.

The Samsung W2019 clamshell smartphone has a 3070 mAh battery and up to 512 GB storage

By default, the Samsung W2019 bundles 128 GB of storage for the Extreme Edition and 256 GB for the Collector's Edition (easily expandable in both cases via the microSD port up to 512 GB), as well as a 3070 mAh battery chargeable using a USB-C connector.

The side of W2019 also features a dedicated hardware button for summoning Samsung's Bixby virtual assistant and a fingerprint reader quick authentication.

If you're willing to disregard W2019' thickness of 17.3 mm and weight of 257 grams (9 oz), you can enjoy its Platinum finish for the Collector's Edition and the Gold Extreme Edition, both made using high-quality diamond-cut glass and anodized aluminum.

"The outer screen and the glass back plate of the nano-scale layer process make the edge of the glass flow," says Samsung on the official W2019 page. "The Golden Extreme Edition flashes a dark red glow, and the Platinum Golden Collector's Edition reflects the blue glow of the sea, and the metal and the glass luster complement each other."
