The merger of Samsung Pay and Samsung Pass is official

Samsung has officially announced Samsung Wallet, a new offering that basically merges Samsung Pay and Samsung Pass in just one solution.

As you’d expect, Samsung app will serve as the home of credit cards, just like Apple’s Wallet app. Given it’s a replacement for Samsung Pay, users will be able to pay with them using the NFC sensor.

Furthermore, Samsung Wallet will also be used for storing airline tickets, digital car keys, and even the driver’s license and the student IDs. Samsung says it’s also bringing crypto wallet support, and so on.

“Samsung Wallet gives users a refined interface and one-swipe access to their payment cards, loyalty and membership cards and more. Samsung Wallet also incorporates the functionality of Samsung Pass which securely stores passwords and enables users to quickly and easily log into apps and services. It even helps users quickly monitor their digital asset portfolio by checking the value of their cryptocurrencies across various exchanges in one place. Later this year, Samsung Wallet will also begin to support official IDs, such as mobile driver’s licences and student IDs,” Samsung says.

As far as the digital car keys are concerned, Samsung says it’s working with several partners in the automotive market to expand these capabilities.

“With the integration of SmartThings and Samsung’s partnerships with well-known home security companies, users can easily add digital home keys to conveniently lock and unlock their doors with a Galaxy device. Samsung Wallet also supports for digital automobile keys on select BMW, Genesis and Hyundai models which let users lock and unlock cars, start engines and more. And Samsung’s partnership with Korean Air allows Korean Air boarding passes to be stored in Samsung Wallet for easy access, making it simple and convenient to board a flight,” it says.

Samsung Wallet is already available today in some countries, including the US, France, the UK, Italy, Spain, and Germany. It requires Android 9 or later.
