Report claims the Unpacked event won’t take place in January

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S23 is the next big release in the mobile market, and people familiar with the matter originally said that the company wanted to launch the device earlier than usual.

In the past, new Galaxy S models were typically announced in February, with the sales kicking off in March. This year, however, the South Koreans were allegedly planning to go for a more aggressive schedule, with the Unpacked event to take place in January.

But according to a report from a Korean daily, this isn’t the case, as Samsung still wants to unveil the new Galaxy S23 in February.

While it would make sense for Samsung to take the wraps off the device in early January just ahead of CES 2023 (which kicks off on January 5 in Las Vegas), the aforementioned source says the Unpacked event is scheduled to take place in February.

No further specifics have been shared, but the timing makes sense, especially as it aligns with the previous Galaxy S announcements that took place in the last few years. It also suggests that after all, Samsung isn’t necessarily in a rush to launch the Galaxy S23, especially during the difficult market conditions today.

However, the new model is still expected to be more expensive than the lineup it replaces, obviously due to the rising costs of materials and the growing inflation. On the other hand, no further specifics are available at this point, so expect a price increase of at least $50 to $100.

If the Galaxy S23 is indeed announced in February, the first units should start shipping to customers by the end of the month. But of course, the timing could always change, especially because the uncertainty makes it hard to anticipate everything in the tech world these days.
