Huawei and Apple to lead the 5G push in 2020

Samsung is one of the first companies that invested in 5G, but this doesn’t necessarily mean it’s also the one leading the pack in 2020.

And it’s all because more phone makers have started focusing on 5G technology, and a report from Strategy Analytics predicts this is bad news for Samsung.

More specifically, the market research firm forecasts that the 5G phone market is likely to reach 234 million devices sold this year, which means that no less than 15 percent of all smartphones shipped in 2020 would come with 5G capabilities.

For what it’s worth, this is a massive growth from the 2019 market performance of 5G phones, when this new technology was still in its early days.

Apple’s 5G domination

But according to Strategy Analytics, Huawei will be the company leading the 5G market this year, with a share of no less than 27.3 percent. Apple will become the runner-up in this modern battle with 21.4 percent of the market, followed by third-placed Samsung with 17.8 percent.

Apple’s new iPhone lineup going live this year will include four different models, and it’s believed all would come with 5G support. This means Apple is betting big on 5G, and this would technically guarantee a massive growth in the coming years.

Strategy Analytics says Apple’s expected to become the leading 5G company next year with a share of 24.2 percent, followed by Huawei with 22.2 percent. The 2021 forecast is bad news for Samsung as well, as this forecast predicts a share of just 15.1 percent of the South Korean firm.

Whether or not this is what’s going to happen is something that still remains to be seen, but for now, it’s pretty clear the 5G market is becoming a very important target for most companies.
