Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy A42 5G, a new mobile device that is the company’s most affordable 5G smartphone to date.

The A42 5G will first go on sale in the United Kingdom with a £349 (some $450) price tag, but there’s a chance it will also hit the shelves in other markets rather sooner than later.

The new phone comes with a 6.6-inch Infinity U display and sports an on-screen fingerprint sensor for easy unlocking. Samsung doesn’t say if it’s an optical or ultrasonic sensor, though at this price level, it’s hard to believe the company would go for the latter.

The A42 5G is powered by a SM 7225 chip paired with 4GB RAM and comes with 128GB built-in storage, while a microSD card slot allows for an expansion to a maximum of 1TB.

In terms of battery, it features a 5,000 mAh unit with 15W fast charging.

Going on sale on November 6

There are three cameras available on the phone, two on the back and one of the front:

  • Rear: 48MP AF (F1.8) + 8MP FF (F2.2) + 5MP FF (F2.4) + 5MP FF (F2.4)
  • Front: 20MP FF Selfie Camera (F2.2)

“The Galaxy A42 5G features powerful multi role Quad Camera that makes capturing or recording those memorable moments easier than ever. The 48MP Main Camera, along with 8MP Ultra Wide Camera can take breath-taking landscape images while the 5MP Macro Camera and 5MP Depth Camera capture intricate details of close-up objects and can create a background blur effect around the subject. There is a 20MP Selfie Camera on the front for next-level selfie shots and crystal clear video calls,” Samsung explains.

The new model will go on sale in the U.K. on November 6, and at this point, it doesn’t seem like Samsung is going to launch a pre-order program for it.
