Samsung could re-brand the Gear S lineup of smartwatches to Samsung Watch, and the next model is now expected to see daylight as soon as the next month.

Originally expected to launch as Gear S4, Samsung Galaxy Watch is likely to be presented on August 9 alongside the Galaxy Note 9, according to a report from Korea.

If this is the schedule that Samsung indeed plans to use, pre-orders should begin on August 14, the same day when customers will be allowed to pre-order the Galaxy Note 9. Shipments would start on August 24, again also the day when Samsung will begin sending out the new phablet to customers who pre-ordered it.

While the release schedule does make sense given that the Galaxy Note 9 would also be introduced in August, there are still several important questions that have to be answered, and one of them concerns the operating system that would be running on this new smartwatch.

Still Tizen

Despite the many rumors that have been making the rounds lately, Samsung Watch won’t use Wear OS, but instead run Tizen, just like its predecessors. The aforementioned source claims Samsung will launch two different versions of the watch that would only be different in terms of dimensions.

As far as features are concerned, little is known in this regard, but by the looks of things, Samsung wants to bet big on healthcare. Improved fitness apps could also be offered with the Watch, the report adds.

No information on the pricing is available right now, but it’s believed that the Samsung Watch could cost as much as its predecessor. Samsung’s Gear S3 currently costs $349.99 for the Frontier edition.

As always, it’s important to keep in mind that these are all just rumors, and you should take them all with a pinch of salt until the official unveiling takes place.
