Stats show Galaxy S9 offers faster download speeds

Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ are the fastest smartphones on the market, the South Korean phone maker announced today citing data provided by a company offering mobile data speed tests.

Ookla used its Speedtest app to collect information on the Galaxy S9 and the iPhone X to determine which one is faster, and while multiple factors are involved, on average Samsung’s model offers substantially higher download speeds.

The results pretty much speak for themselves, as the Galaxy S9 is said to be no less than 37% faster than the iPhone X. It also beats the Google Pixel 2 by 17% and the Galaxy S7, which itself set a record when it launched, by 38%.

These numbers pretty much make sense, as Samsung has specifically focused on improving LTE speeds. The latest flagships come with a CAT 18 LTE modem, which according to the company itself can reach speeds of up to 1.2 Gbps.

Samsung bragging about the S9

Needless to say, Samsung used this occasion to praise its Galaxy S9 and S9+ in the typical press release-y way, which is particularly important for the company since sales of the two devices are said to be quite below expectations at this point.

“At Samsung, we’re constantly innovating and developing products that set the new standard for the industry. Our Galaxy owners never need to worry about whether they’re getting the best possible experience from their phone,” Justin Denison, Senior Vice President, Mobile Product Strategy and Marketing at Samsung Electronics America, said in a press release (which you can read in full below).

While you shouldn’t take these figures for granted, the Galaxy S9 lineup is undoubtedly among the best right now, just like the flagships coming from other brands. Samsung is projected to continue this series of improvements with another model release in the summer, as the Galaxy Note lineup will get its yearly refresh.
