The operating system eats up 60GB of storage space

While the devices that we purchase come with certain amounts of storage, often heavily advertised by their parent companies, customers end up getting much less.

And it’s all because out of the storage available on the device, the operating system and the pre-loaded apps eat up quite a lot of storage.

In the case of the Samsung Galaxy S23, however, it looks like the whole thing is reaching a ridiculous level.

The folks over at Android Authority have discovered that Samsung Galaxy S23 buyers are losing by default no more, no less than 60 GB of their storage.

And it’s all because of the bloatware that comes with the phone.

The whole thing is as simple and ridiculous as it can be. On the Pixel 7, Android 13, the same operating system that powers the Galaxy S23, eats up nearly 15 GB of storage. With heavy optimizations, you can bring the storage footprint even lower, but let’s say you’re losing 15 GB of your storage by default.

On the Samsung Galaxy S23, however, the operating system uses…. drum rolls… 60 GB. That’s four times more than on the Pixel and nearly as much as Windows 11 requires on a desktop computer.

The reason for this is the bloatware that comes on Samsung’s high-end phones. While some people would be tempted to believe that paying a premium would provide them with a clean experience, this is not the case. Galaxy S models typically come with all kinds of unnecessary software, including Facebook, Microsoft apps, and even Samsung apps that nobody uses.

Eventually, you can reclaim some of this space, but on the other hand, some services are deeply integrated into the OS, so no matter how hard you try, you still won’t be able to get a fully clean Android operating system.
