While the iPhone 12 is selling like hotcakes these days, statistics provided by Counterpoint Research indicate that in South Korea, Samsung is the one topping the charts both in terms of company market share and model sales.

As reported by ZDNet, Counterpoint’s data claims Samsung secured a market share of no less than 67 percent in the first quarter of 2021, up from 64 percent in the same quarter a year before.

Long-time rival Apple finished second in the charts with a market share of 22 percent, down from no less than 31 percent the quarter before.

Galaxy S21 topping the charts

Samsung’s Galaxy S12 was the number one phone in South Korea during the quarter, just ahead of the company’s A31 and Apple’s iPhone 12 Pro.

The South Korean company totally dominated the top 10, as Samsung accounted for 7 out of 10 models in the charts.

In the meantime, Apple is getting ready to launch a new-generation iPhone, and it’s believed the company is already working with suppliers to order the necessary components to begin the mass production of the smartphones.

Apple will launch four different iPhones this year, all upgrades to the current models. It looks like Apple also wants to release a new iPhone mini, though it’s believed the company has already stopped the production of the current model due to poor sales.

In the meantime, Samsung is also preparing to unveil a new series of foldable phones, and there’s a chance the company would share all details in August as part of a dedicated Unpacked event. Samsung is yet to officially announce the event, but the timing seems just about right, as this is the month when the company typically holds an Unpacked event to announce new smartphones.
