14 DAY TRIAL // Samsung’s Galaxy S21 sold really well in the first quarter of the year, but as it turns out, not the same thing can be said about Q2.
This is according to Kiwoom Securities, who reveals in data shared with Business Post that Samsung’s Galaxy S21 sold worse not only than the Galaxy 20, its direct successor, but even than the Galaxy S10.
More specifically, sales of the Galaxy S21 in the two quarters combined (in the first six months of the year) are so worse that they dropped 20 percent as compared to the Galaxy S20. Keep in mind that 2020 was the pandemic year when the Galaxy S20 struggled with store closures and restrictions in pretty much all major markets.
But the report reveals that the Galaxy S21 performed worse even than the Galaxy S10 released in 2019. Sales of the flagship S as compared to the model released two years ago are down 47 percent, though this isn’t necessarily surprising given 2019 wasn’t impacted by any lockdown or other restrictions affecting the distribution and the hands-on experience for interested customers.
New Samsung phones coming this month
However, Samsung is still betting big on new-generation models, and the company is actually getting ready to introduce a series of refreshes as soon as this month.
New foldables would see the daylight in August, and Samsung says that it’s also bringing a special S Pen design to this new form factor.
A new Note, however, wouldn’t be launch this year, as Samsung wants to skip a refresh of this device and stick with foldables for the summer Unpacked event.
“We debut our next Galaxy Z family and share some foldable surprises — including the first-ever S Pen designed specifically for foldable phones. Instead of unveiling a new Galaxy Note this time around, we will further broaden beloved Note features to more Samsung Galaxy devices,” Dr. TM Roh, President & Head of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics, said.
The next Unpacked event takes place on August 11.
