All because the new processor is too expensive, it seems

Samsung’s Galaxy S21 is obviously expected to come with the latest and greatest in terms of hardware when it goes live in the spring of the next year, but if a new rumor is anything to go by, this might no longer be the case.

And it’s all because the South Korean company is actually pondering using an older chip on the Galaxy S21 in an attempt to keep the price low.

While I think this is very unlikely, especially because the Galaxy S21 can only impress if it uses the latest hardware available at launch, and it’s by definition a flagship, a report today claims the Snapdragon 865 processor could stick around for a little longer than we originally expected.

This is the chip that’s powering the Galaxy S20, and there’s a chance it’ll be the chip powering the Galaxy S21 too, if the new rumors are true.

Exynos 1000 on more models

By the looks of things, the price of a Snapdragon 875 kit reaches $250, while the 865 can be purchased for just $150. The 875 is the processor that’s supposed to power the Galaxy S21.

At the same time, Samsung can also focus a little bit more on the Exynos 1000, the company’s new chip that could replace the Snapdragon and be offered on the Galaxy S21 in more countries. Right now, Samsung offers its Galaxy S models with both the Exynos and Snapdragon chips, but the availability depends on the region where the device is sold.

Without a doubt, this is nothing but speculation at this point, and I think you should take with a healthy dose of skepticism. Of course, Samsung won’t comment on such rumors, but there’s a good chance this isn’t going to happen, as the latest hardware is what defines the Galaxy S lineup in the first place.
