The closer we get to the rumored launch of the Samsung Galaxy S10, the more rumors make the rounds, and this time, people with knowledge of the matter discuss the unlocking systems to be installed on the device.

By the looks of things, Samsung is planning some pretty big changes in this regard, and this totally makes sense given that the S10 would celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Galaxy S lineup.

First and foremost, sources told The Bell that Samsung could give up on the iris scanner. While at first glance this doesn’t make much sense, it’s actually a logical choice because the South Korean firm wants to introduce a more advanced facial recognition system.

Right now, Samsung’s flagship device series already features facial recognition, but it’s a less advanced system that relies on the front-facing camera to perform the unlocking.

On the Galaxy S10, Samsung would implement a module similar to the one on the iPhone X, which would technically enable 3D facial recognition that would be more accurate, faster, and more secure. Such a system would work in a wide variety of conditions, as the current version requires a certain amount of light to be able to scan the face.

And since this would be the tenth-anniversary model, Samsung wants the Galaxy S10 to be a truly big release. In addition to 3D facial recognition, the device could also come with a fingerprint sensor embedded into the screen.

This is a feature that has long been rumored to be installed on Samsung’s model, but up until now, it was believed that such technology wasn’t ready for the mass market. Chinese companies like Vivo and Xiaomi have already introduced such features, and Samsung doesn’t want to be late to the party.

The S10 is expected to see daylight in the first months of 2019, and the most recent reports in this regard indicate that January is very likely to witness its debut.
