Samsung will take the wraps off the Galaxy S10 model in early 2019, and although it was originally believed that the new series would include three versions, it looks like this wasn’t entirely accurate.

New code references discovered in a recent Android 9 Pie for Samsung Galaxy S9+ firmware indicates that Samsung may be planning to unveil four different S10 models, each with custom specifications.

As reported by XDA, the S10 series is codenamed Beyond, and the names that have been discovered within the firmware’s files point to different configurations for each device.

Expected models

First of all, it’s the one called beyond0, which will probably be the mainstream Galaxy S10 version featuring a 5.8-inch display and a single rear camera. The fingerprint sensor on this phone could be moved to the side, so it won’t be embedded into the glass. This configuration may hit the market at a lower price, in an approach that reminds of Apple’s iPhone XR.

Then, it’s beyond1, which will probably be the same model as beyond0, but with a dual-camera configuration on the back. This time, a price increase is likely too.

Beyond2 will be the larger Galaxy S10+, boasting a 6.44-inch display and triple cameras on the back. Dual cameras will be used on the front for selfies and video calls.

The top-of-the-range Galaxy S10 is listed as beyond2 5G, and according to the cited source, could be the same as beyond2, but also come with 5G capabilities.

If the existing speculation is accurate, this top model may only launch in South Korea at first, as 5G networks are already available in the country, while other markets like the United States will get it at a later time when carriers release 5G support.

Samsung is projected to unveil this new-generation Galaxy S model in late January or early February, with sales to begin shortly after that.
