Free app allows you to use it for notifications

Samsung Galaxy S10 no longer comes with an LED notification light, so when hearing that the South Korean company added a camera ring that lights up for certain tasks, everyone believed the firm invented a truly innovative alternative to notifications.

And yet, Samsung doesn’t seem to be in a rush to enable the camera ring to double as a notification light, despite several people close to the matter saying this feature is on its way.

Meanwhile, the developer community across the world decided to take care of this on its own, so an app called Arc Lighting finally makes it possible.

Thanks to this app, you can use the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ hole punch cutout as a notification light, and there’s a plethora of customization settings to choose from. There are colors, animations and so much more. Furthermore, the app can be configured to use the camera ring for other purposes, like battery warnings, charging state, and even when the device gets hot when playing games.

Still in beta

Furthermore, Arc Lighting supports working on the Always-On Display, which means you’ll see the notification light without unlocking the device.

As it’s the case of such customizations, the app requires access to accessibility settings, and you need to grant it such permissions to work properly.

The developer has also added an option to prevent burn-ins on AMOLED displays.

“If you are concerned about this, feel free to enable the rotation animation in ring settings. That will ensure the display is constantly changing. Alternately, you can disable the default effect to only show the ring while an indicator is being triggered,” the app descriptions reads.

You can download Arc Lighting using this link, and keep in mind the app is still in beta, so certain features may not work exactly as expected.
