Devices must be restarted multiple times, customers complain

The Galaxy S10 5G is Samsung’s newest and greatest smartphone at this point, supporting 5G speeds in markets where such networks are already available.

But as some customers found the hard way, there’s a long way from promising 5G speeds to actually delivering them, especially when an inconsistent experience is being offered.

This is what happens in South Korea, according to a report from Business Korea, as customers are now complaining that the Galaxy S10 5G sometimes loses data connections and the device needs to be restarted multiple times to restore 5G connectivity.

The Galaxy S10 5G comes with separate antennas to switch from 5G to 4G in areas where the 5G signal isn’t strong enough. But as per the cited source, the data connection is dropped entirely in some cases, despite Samsung offering several updates to resolve this behavior.

Updates already shipped

This is actually the more worrying part of the news. While it’s not unusual for new technologies and devices to experience issues when first hitting the shelves, Samsung says it has already released “all software updates that it could do,” according to the same source.

At the same time, local carriers claim they also shipped updates to the base station software and the problem should no longer occur.

"We have never received such complaints and found no such problem," KT was quoted as saying. “We surpassed 30,000 subscribers at 5:50 p.m. on the second day of the launch of the Galaxy S10 5G.”

And yet, users are still experiencing similar issues, and for the time being, it’s not yet clear if the 5G connectivity can be further improved on the Galaxy S10 5G. Some are already thinking about potential issues with the device itself, though for now, no evidence has been provided in this regard.

“We cannot rule out the possibility of terminals’ failure to smoothly switch from one service mode to another,” an official working for a local carrier told the source.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G is currently available in limited markets, but it should soon go on sale in new countries, including the United States.
