Wait… you really thought the exploding phone saga is over?

As if Samsung’s problems with the broken displays of the Galaxy Fold weren’t enough, here’s the very first Galaxy S10 unit that catches fire.

A South Korean customer called Lee and who purchased not the regular version of the Galaxy S10 but the 5G version says his phone caught fire all of a sudden.

And what’s worse, he says, is that Samsung actually refused to reimburse the customer on grounds that the whole incident wasn’t caused by an internal glitch, but by what the company describes as an “external impact.”

Samsung told AFP that the device did not suffer from any issue, so it technically puts the blame on the customer for the Galaxy S10 5G that exploded.

Wrecked phone

As for the owner himself, Lee says he has no idea why the device caught fire.

“My phone was on the table when it started smelling burnt and smoke soon engulfed the phone,” he was quoted as saying by the cited source. “I had to drop it to the ground when I touched it because it was so hot.”

The damage caused by the fire completely wrecked the phone and the owner says “everything inside was burnt.” He was hoping to get a refund from Samsung, but as it turns out, the South Korean firm sees no reason to issue a reimbursement because the device isn’t at fault for the incident.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of unknown tidbits in this story, so we still don’t know if the man was using a genuine charger and cable to recharge the device and whether the device indeed suffered an external shock or not.

Samsung apparently suggests this was the case, but at the same time, this can mean anything from a simple drop to the ground to external pressure that bent the case of the phone and exposed the internals.
