Samsung making changes to its smartphone lineup

Right now, Samsung’s flagship lineup of phones includes the foldable models, the Galaxy S, and the Galaxy Note series, but as it turns out, the South Korean company is looking into a series of changes that would simplify its portfolio.

And the most obvious change would the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note to no longer be positioned as flagships, as this moniker would only be given to the foldable phones in the company’s lineup.

The information comes from leaker Ice Universe, who explains that Samsung is ready to go all-in on foldable phones.

“Samsung has shifted its focus to foldable phones. If you think the Galaxy S21 series is not powerful enough, don’t be surprised,” he posted during the weekend.

And by the looks of things, Samsung wants the Z series to become the true flagships in its lineup, albeit right now, it’s not clear if this includes no longer equipping the Galaxy S and Note series with the latest-generation hardware, including the newest chips developed by Samsung itself and Qualcomm.

“You will find that the A series of high-end models have disappeared, and Note20 looks like the A series. There are signs that Samsung can weaken the S/N series and regard the Z series as the true flagship,” the leaker continued.

When exactly this is expected to happen? As soon as 2021, it seems, as the Galaxy S21 could be the first important release that could see this strategy affect its future. As per Samsung’s typical calendar, the Galaxy S21 should see daylight in the first quarter of the next year, most likely in February.

Needless to say, Samsung has remained completely tight-lipped on everything, so for now, just take everything with a healthy dose of skepticism until more information surfaces.
