The Note 10 is likely to be a no-button smartphone

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will introduce some pretty huge design changes that the South Korean company could then expand to other models too, including the Galaxy S11 due in early 2020.

A report from AndroidPolice and citing sources familiar with Samsung’s plans reveals that the Galaxy Note 10 could come without a headphone jack.

While this is likely to cause a certain amount of criticism from fans who expected Samsung to resist this trend, the Note 10 is likely to come with just an USB Type-C connector that can be used for both charging and listening to music.

However, Samsung will push harder for the adoption of wireless headphones, especially after the launch of the Galaxy Buds earlier this year.

The headphone jack won’t be the only feature getting the axe on the Galaxy Note 10, as Samsung also wants to remove the physical volume and power keys on the smartphone.

Bigger upgrades under the hood

According to the cited source, all these buttons will be replaced “by capacitive or pressure-sensitive areas,” which Samsung could set apart from the rest of the phone with bumps or textures.

The purpose appears to be obtaining a more compact phone whose design would allow for more tweaks under the hood, like a larger battery thanks to the extra space obtained by removing buttons and the headphone jack. Samsung is also expected to embed the fingerprint sensor into the glass on the Note 10, and the removal of the headphone jack could thus help make room inside for other upgrades.

While at this point it’s not yet clear if Samsung wants to expand all these changes to other phones, this is very likely to happen, especially on the Galaxy S lineup. The next Galaxy S is the S11 due in the spring of 2020, and if these changes are well received by customers, they could make their way to this model too.
