Rumor claims Samsung may be aiming for a bigger screen

Samsung is planning major upgrades for both the Galaxy S and the Galaxy Note series of phones next year, and bigger screens are all but confirmed now.

A new report coming from The Bell and citing people with knowledge of the matter indicates that the Note 10 could come with a screen as large as 6.66 inches.

And while at first glance this doesn’t make much sense, it does when taking into account all the other upgrades that Samsung is planning for its 2019 phone lineup.

First and foremost, the Galaxy S10 series itself will boast bigger screens, and the top-of-the-range model, which could also come with a triple-camera configuration, may have a display measuring no less than 6.44 inches.

As a Samsung flagship, the Note has always been bigger than the top Galaxy S model, so to maintain this trend, the Note 10 could also get an upgrade in display size.

No headphone jack?

While it’s a little bit too early to discuss such upgrades on the Note given its mid-2019 launch, Samsung looking into such an improvement certainly makes sense. A bigger screen technically means the device itself would be slightly larger, which in turn allows for a larger battery to be used.

This year’s Note comes with a 4,000 mAh unit, and battery life is one of the most praised things about the device, and Samsung apparently wants to keep this approach on the upcoming generation.

Furthermore, there’s a chance that Samsung may also be planning some other upgrades, including a change in terms of headphone support. The 3.5mm audio port could go away in pure Apple fashion, and this would also make more room under the hood for battery.

Of course, anything can change overnight given that the Note 10 is still in prototype stage, but we’ll find out more about it in the coming months for sure.
