A Galaxy Note model is still expected next year

There’s a lot of talk about Samsung’s 2021 smartphone lineup, and while the Galaxy S21 and the new foldable models are all certain releases, not the same thing can be said about a new Note.

And this is because rumor has it the Galaxy Note could eventually be killed off, all as part of a long-term strategy that comes down to adding S Pen support for the Galaxy S lineup and thus create a new-generation successor for Samsung’s phablet.

People familiar with the plans of the South Korean company suggested the whole thing is supposed to happen as soon as the next year, when a potential Note21 would never see the daylight.

Instead, the Galaxy S21 Ultra would ship with S Pen capabilities, which means the Galaxy Note would make little sense next year.

And yet, according to new information coming through unofficial channels, a Galaxy Note is still expected next year, and its launch could take place in September.

But this doesn’t necessarily mean the Galaxy Note wouldn’t eventually get the ax. It will, only that this transition wouldn’t just happen overnight. When this is expected to happen is still unclear, but there are big chances the Galaxy Note would be ditched after the 2021 model or at a later time.

For now, it looks like the Note is here to stay, and we’ll find out more about it next year.

In the meantime, Samsung is betting big on the Galaxy S lineup, which is scheduled to go live earlier than anticipated, with people close to the matter suggesting the whole thing would happen in January. Samsung thus wants to give the Galaxy S21 more exclusive time on the market, and this could be a reason why the next Note would actually get the go-ahead in September.
