The company’s Health app expands beyond mobile

Many use Samsung Health on their mobile devices to keep an eye on basic stuff, like their daily workout routines, but in fact, the app is much more capable and can do so much more.

And this so much more allows it to expand beyond the smartphone product category, and this is what Samsung is doing today by releasing Samsung Health on smart TV. Samsung originally announced this release earlier this year, and many wondered if a health app makes any sense on a TV, and as it turns out, it really does.

Technically, what the South Korean company is trying to do is “revolutionize the concept of at-home workouts.” As so many of us discovered that staying at home is sometimes the best thing we can do and common things like training have moved in the living room, Samsung wants to make the whole concept much more convenient.

So with Samsung Health on smart TVs, users can access free premium classes and train easier, start wellness routines, and access their dashboards to also see information from Samsung wearables and companion apps installed on mobile devices.

Only 2020 smart TVs supported

The app supports personalized profiles and allows the configuration of individual routines, while Samsung Challengers are now available on smart TVs as well. For training, Samsung has partnered with a series of companies to offer fitness and wellness programs, including with alm, obé fitness, barre3, Echelon, Fitplan, and Jillian Michaels Fitness.

More partners would be added in the coming months, Samsung says, but the free content available right now is already providing some 5,000 of training.

“The whole intention of Samsung Health is to motivate our consumers to live healthier lives by meeting them wherever they are, across Samsung platforms,” said Won-Jin Lee, Executive Vice President of Service Business at Samsung Electronics.

The bad news is that the app lands only on 2020 smart TVs, so if your Samsung model is older than that, there’s not much you can do but upgrade to a new-generation TV.
