Samsung is betting big on S Pen support across its device portfolio, and after bringing this feature to the Galaxy S21 series, it’s now getting ready on expanding it to foldables too.

As one would figure out, adding stylus support to a foldable screen is particularly challenging, and one of the problems is the digitizer the display needs to recognize the S Pen input. In other words, the digitizers too needs to be foldable, and according to a recent report, Samsung has managed to deal with the whole thing.

So the S Pen support is ready to go live on foldables, with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 due in the third quarter of the year likely to come with such capabilities.

The production will begin later this spring, so theoretically, everything should be ready in the summer.

Samsung trying to expand S Pen across its range

Samsung itself confirmed earlier this year that it wants S Pen support to be available on more devices after previously being offered as a Note-exclusive feature for many years.

“We are committed to innovating new mobile experiences that flow seamlessly and continuously to make our consumers’ lives easier and better. We’ve made the bold decision to expand the S Pen experience to Galaxy S21 Ultra, and plan to expand the S Pen experience across additional device categories in the future. We remain committed to providing the best mobile experience to our consumers and will continue to actively listen and consider consumer feedback in our product innovations,” TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics, said shortly after the launch of the S21.

At this point, it’s still not clear if a new Note is coming this year or not, as Samsung is believed to be planning the demise of this model.
