While we still have to wait a few more weeks until the 2020 iPhone generation sees the daylight, it looks like Apple’s plans for a massive update are progressing well.

According to leaker Ice Universe, who recently posted new information on Weibo, Samsung has recently started shipping foldable displays to Apple for a mysterious new iPhone.

And while we don’t know anything about this iPhone model, it’s obviously very likely to be the highly-anticipated foldable version that some people previously projected could launch next year.

No specifics are available right now, but given that Samsung has accelerated shipments of foldable screens to Apple, there’s a chance the development of the foldable iPhone has reached another important stage ahead of the expected launch next year. Possibly, Apple is building prototypes or is just trialing the foldable iPhone, so it needs more displays from Samsung.

The 2020 iPhone generation

While we’re obviously still far from the moment we’ll be able to get our hands on a foldable iPhones, Samsung and others are investigating aggressively in this form factor.

Apple, on the other hand, is sticking with the traditional design for the iPhone, with the 2020 lineup to bring four different models that look mostly the same as the 2019 predecessors.

The smallest iPhone this year is likely to come with a 5.4-inch display, and it will be offered alongside two different 6.1-inch iPhones. One of them will be a successor to the lower-cost iPhone 11, while the other one will be the upgraded iPhone 11 Pro.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max will be available with a 6.7-inch display, according to people familiar with the matter. It’s believed that 4G iPhone 12 could also be launched in the spring of the next year as a more affordable version on select markets.
