The update can be pulled from Microsoft servers

Samsung ATIV SE is one of the most loved Windows Phone devices launched in the last couple of years, so it would make sense for the South Korean company to make everything in its power to provide owners with the latest major OS updates.

The smartphone was launched about two years ago with Windows Phone 8 onboard. The ATIV SE was considered a high-end handset at that time, and even now it would surely be capable of running Windows 10 Mobile.

However, Microsoft and Samsung are still silent on a possible Windows 10 mobile upgrade for the ATIV SE, so those who still own the handset can only hope that their devices will eventually get the update.

The problem is Microsoft hasn't kicked off the rollout of Windows 10 Mobile for current Windows Phone 8.1 devices yet. Unless you decide to enroll in Windows Insider program, there's no official alternative to get Windows 10 Mobile on your phone.

The good news is Samsung ATIV SE does seem to support Windows 10 Mobile, and the availability of the update depends on a switch that Microsoft must turn on.

A little bit of hacking is required

One Samsung ATIV SE owner has decided to hack its phone's registry to update it to another model that is compatible with Windows 10 Mobile, WMPU reports.

After successfully updating to Windows 10 Mobile, he then reset the smartphone and lost the option to upgrade the ATIV SE using the Windows Insider application. He also lost all the registry changes previously made on the smartphone, which prevented him from using the Windows Insider app.

But the point is he managed to upgrade his Samsung ATIV SE since Microsoft added the production or release preview ring to its Windows Insider app several days ago.

If you have the Samsung ATIV SE and wish to upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile, you will have to trick the Windows Insider app into thinking you want to install it on a compatible device.

After that, you should be able to upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile, though resetting the device might prevent you from accessing the Insider app and any further updates.
