Samsung has just announced the new 870 EVO SSD, a new storage solution coming with capacities of up to four terabytes.

The new 2.5-inch SSD supports the SATA 6Gbps interface and is available for purchase in multiple versions, starting at 250GB and ending with the top-of-the-range 4TB model.

According to the official specs, the 870 EVO SSD provides sequent read speeds of up to 560 MB/s, while the write speed reaches 530 MB/s.

“The Samsung 870 EVO features the company’s latest V-NAND and controller, allowing it to reach the maximum SATA sequential read and write speeds of 560 and 530MB/s, respectively. Using a large variable SLC buffer, the drive’s Intelligent TurboWrite technology helps maintain its peak performance levels. The 870 EVO also delivers a nearly 38% improvement in random read speed over the previous 860 model, enabling enhanced user experiences when multi-tasking, web browsing or simply booting up PCs,” Samsung explains in a press statement.

Going on sale this month

The SSD is projected to go on sale as soon as this month in the United States, with the base version with 250GB of storage to be available for just $49.99. On the other hand, the upgraded model with 500GB will be offered for $79.99, while the 1TB model will cost $139.99. Those who want to get the 2TB SSD will have to pay $269.99, while the top-of-the-range model with 4TB of storage can be purchased for $529.99.

“Harnessing its experience and expertise in storage technologies, Samsung designs all SSD components in-house to ensure that every part works together cohesively. As a result, the 870 EVO offers around a 30% improvement in sustained performance over the 860 EVO, as well as a class-leading terabytes written (TBW) rating of 2,400TB, or a 5-year limited warranty, for its 4TB model,” the South Korean company concludes.
