Red Hat is the latest organization that decides to cancel one of its physical events, with the upcoming Red Hat Summit 2020 now moving to online-only due to coronavirus concerns.

The event was projected to take place April 28-29, and Red Hat says the same content would be provided to those who connect to the live streaming, including keynotes, breakout sessions, and access to Red Hat experts.

“Like others, we have been closely monitoring evolving coronavirus (COVID-19) developments, including guidance from the CDC, WHO and other health authorities. The safety and wellbeing of Red Hat Summit attendees is our top priority, and as a precautionary measure, we have decided to rebuild Red Hat Summit 2020 as a virtual event and cancel the physical event at San Francisco’s Moscone Center,” Red Hat says.

Hotel reservations also canceled

Those who have already registered for the physical event will also be registered for the virtual event at no charge, with two options offered going forward: they can either use their passes during the next year’s summit or get a refund. Emails will be sent to each attendee to let them choose between the two, Red Hat says.

Additionally, all hotel reservations made through the conference website will be canceled with no charges, but attendees who booked a hotel using other services need to reach out to the hotels to cancel their reservations.

“We are still working through many of the details for the virtual event, but are excited about the opportunity to share our newest innovations with you and bring content on the latest in Linux, cloud, automation and management, container, and Kubernetes technologies to an even wider global audience,” Red Hat explains.

Full information, including how to register for the online-only event, will be published in the coming weeks.
