If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind computer module to expand the capabilities of the Raspberry Pi, here’s a new camera add-on that comes with impressive specs.

While the first camera for the Raspberry Pi was launched in 2013, the new so-called High Quality Camera ships with a 12.3 megapixel Sony IMX477 sensor and support for C- and CS-mount lenses.

“The High Quality Camera is designed to accept CS-mount lenses and, with the supplied adapter, C-mount lenses. The CGL 6 mm CS-mount and 16 mm C-mount lenses are examples of third-party products that are compatible with the High Quality Camera; see step-by-step instructions for fitting these CS-mount and C-mount lenses,” the Raspberry Pi Foundation explains in an announcement today.

The full specifications are embedded at the end of the article.

If you want to purchase the Raspberry Pi High Quality Camera, it’s important to know that it’s really not as expensive as you’d expect it to be. The base setup is available for $50, while the version equipped with a 16mm telephoto lens costs $100. The 6mm wide angle-lens for the camera adds another $25.

The good news is that the camera comes with support for the majority of Raspberry Pi models. According to the announcement, you can use any Raspberry Pi 1 Model B or newer with the camera.

The original camera module that was released 7 years ago continues to be available alongside its modern sibling, this time with a $30 price tag.
