Raspberry Pi announces yet another brand-new product

The Raspberry Pi Foundation has just announced a brand new product, this time in the form of a Raspberry Pi 4 Case Fan that works with the official case that’s already up for grabs.

The purpose of this new accessory is as simple as it could be: it prevents overheating on the Raspberry Pi 4, “even when running the heaviest workloads, at the most aggressive overclocks,” as the parent company explains.

“To run indefinitely at full speed under these conditions you’ll need either a passive cooling solution (like the excellent Flirc case), or an active one like the Raspberry Pi 4 Case Fan. It draws air in over the USB and Ethernet connectors, passes it over a small finned heatsink attached to the processor, and exhausts it through the SD card slot. Here’s our workload running with the case fan: now the board remains well below 70C, and as expected the compile job takes the same amount of time as on the uncased board,” the official announcement reads.

Available today for just $5

The new fan is available for just $5 and can be purchased today from Raspberry Pi Approved Resellers.

Raspberry Pi explains that its recent optimization work allows the board to run at normal temperatures with the stock clock frequency of 1.5 GHz, and according to official data, the average values barely exceed 70 degrees Celsius. On the other hand, overclocking the Pi 4 means you can get it as high as 1.8 GHz or even more, and needless to say, the temperature is on the rise as well. This means hitting 80 degrees Celsius is just a matter of minutes, and therefore a fan like the one announced today is more than welcome.
