A new Ubuntu-powered tablet from MJ Technology is going to be available for preorder really soon, and a new crowdfunding campaign will be started.

The MJ Technology LLC startup announced a few months ago that they were planning to release for preorder a new tablet powered by Ubuntu, but not the mobile version. The new tablet is using the regular Ubuntu OS, which is already ready for touchscreen use. In fact, Ubuntu can make use of touchscreens for years, but monitors with touch capabilities didn’t have a lot of success due to their high prices.

To be fair, a lot of users thought that it was just another scam, but from the looks of it, they will start to take preorders for them in just a few hours, although it’s not clear why they still need a crowdfunding campaign.

The MJ Technology Ubuntu tablet is pretty powerful

The Ubuntu Tablet comes in two sizes, 8.9 and 10.1 inches (IPS Display with 1920x1200 and 10 point multitouch), and the only difference between them is the price, while the hardware remains the same. The small one costs $349, and the bigger one is $399.

It also uses an Intel Atom x7-Z8700 CPU (2M Cache, up to 2.40 GHz), 4GB LPDDR3 RAM (2x2GB) memory, 64GB Internal storage space (up to a max of 128GB), a microSD slot, a mini PCI-Express slot with external access, Gsensor, Compass, Gyroscope, and GPS.

Also, the table has 2.4/5GHZ Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, micro HDMI out, 1 2.0 USB port, 1 3.0 USB port, and one microUSB, two 2W speakers, 8MP front-facing camera, a 13MP rear-facing camera, a 7500mAh battery for 8.9" version and an 8500mAh battery for the 10.1 version. The expected battery life is around eight hours while being used and about 200 hours in standby.

We’ll know more about these tablets when the crowdfunding goes live and whey they actually get on sale. For now, we only have their Facebook announcement.
