14 DAY TRIAL // After an asteroid has fallen on Earth and delivered chunks of rock and toxic overgrowth fungus, survivors discovered that the world has changed into a brutal environment. This is the premise of Eden Falling, a post-apocalyptic turn-based RPG developed and published by a relatively new studio – Razor Edge Games.
Co-founded by Mike Weiser (Fallen Heroes, 1996), Razor Edge Games has around 160 part-time employees working remotely across 14 time zones. The studio recently secured over $1.3 million, which, combined with further funding, will bring Eden Falling onto Steam Early Access in 2020.
The story of Eden Falling starts exactly 62 years after an asteroid struck Earth. The alien spores carried by the huge rock have decimated the population and the little that remained of humanity has split into factions.
In Eden Falling, you get to customize your character, stats, skills and equipment, before you start your journey in the wasteland. The mechanics are based on tabletop games, characters age and evolve other the years in-game, gain experience and skills but lose other abilities, like strength and speed, as they age.
It's an interesting concept that might or might not work in a cRPG like Eden Falling, granted it's sustained by other gameplay mechanics. It's also worth mentioning that Eden Falling promises both single and multiplayer modes. There will be no class system, which will offer players the freedom to customize characters to fit their playstyles.
Eden Falling features perma-death, which is tackled in a unique way. If your character dies, his or her legacy will not end, as their skills will effectively be passed on to so-called Companion players. There's also an interesting system that will allow players to undo unwanted outcomes using Destiny Points.
At this time, we don't know when exactly Eden Falling will be released on Steam, but the folks at Razor Edge Games said it will be this year. There is no actual footage from the game and all we have are some artworks that you can see in the gallery below.
