Only 10% of devices were updated in the first 48 hours

Apple uses to brag about the about the adoption of its most recent iOS version occasionally, but with every new release, the number of devices that are being updated in the first days of availability drops significantly.

New data provided by Mixpanel shows this is exactly the case of iOS 12 as well, which was installed on approximately 10 percent of supported iOS devices in its first two days on the market.

This is a drop from 15.91 percent recorded by iOS 11 in the first 48 hours as well, which in its turn is another decline from the 20.20 percent achieved by iOS 10.

iOS 12 isn’t by any means an operating system that comes with limited availability, as it’s being offered to all devices that were previously supported by iOS 11. This means that iPhone 5s and newer are able to update to iOS 12, and what’s more, they should notice a substantial performance increase.

Worried about bugs

This, however, doesn’t seem to be reason enough for iPhone users to rush to update their devices, and many more are probably waiting to see whether the new iOS version is plagued by bugs or not.

Long-time iPhone users have learned the hard way that installing new iOS versions in the first hours after the launch isn’t a good idea.

iOS 11, which itself was launched with much fanfare by Apple, proved to be a crazy rollercoaster ride for iPhone users, as it brought all kinds of issues, from battery drain to app lag and crashes. Apple struggled to address these problems for several months, after each new update fixed some of the issues but introduced others.

For iOS 12, the performance seems to be a little bit more refined now, and the number of reports pointing to issues appears to be very limited, which can only be good news for everyone planning to update.
