The Apple device installed base reaches a new record

The Apple device installed base has reached another record, with the Cupertino-based tech giant confirming as part of its latest earnings report that the number has just surpassed the 2 billion units threshold.

In other words, this is how many active Apple devices are out there in the world, with CEO Tim Cook saying that the company added over 150 million devices over the last year alone.

Asked by Morgan Stanley analyst Erik Woodring if the figure is correct, Cook said that Apple managed to grow especially in emerging markets, including India and Brazil, where its devices sold like hotcakes.

“The installed base is now over 2 billion active devices, as you mentioned. And we set records across each geographic segment and major product category. And so it was a broad-based change,” Cook said.

“Two, correct one thing you said, it's up over 150 million year over year. The last report we reported to be over 1.85. And so it's 150 million, which we're very proud of. We also saw strong double-digit in several of the emerging markets, which is very important to us. For example, India and Brazil as just two examples. So very, very strong. And obviously, it bodes well for the future.”

Supply chain issues resolved

The number is expected to grow even further, especially as Apple manages to resolve supply chain issues.

Until recently, the production of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max has been heavily impacted by the restrictions its Chinese suppliers had to deal with, with Apple itself acknowledging the problems back in November.

Everything has returned to normal now, and despite the slow demand for certain models, such as the iPhone 14 Plus, certain devices continue to sell like hotcakes, including the new Pros.
