We promised to offer you more details about upcoming PCLinuxOS editions, and today we have some great news for those who love the KDE Plasma desktop environment.

Yes, that's right, the PCLinuxOS developers are preparing to unleash the final version of the PCLinuxOS 64 2016.06 KDE5 operating system, an official flavor of the PCLinuxOS project, bringing you the latest and greatest KDE technologies, all built on top of the Linux 4.5 kernel series.

The latest preview version of PCLinuxOS 64 2016.06 KDE5 was published a week ago, and it looks like it ships with Linux kernel 4.5.6, fully updated core components from the main PCLinuxOS software repository, the new Krita 3.0 open-source digital painting software, and the KDE Plasma 5.6.4 desktop environment.

Of course, users will also find the latest KDE Applications 16.04.1 software suite and KDE Frameworks 5.22.0 collection of add-ons for Qt5, along with the LibreOffice 5.1 office suite, and updated boot splash and shutdown screens, just like all the other PCLinuxOS 64 2016.06 editions. But PCLinuxOS 64 2016.06 KDE5 comes with a warning.

"Please do not try to mix the kde and the kde5 sections in Synaptic. Please do not try to upgrade your KDE4 install to KDE5 through Synaptic or you will break your KDE4 desktop. If you like you KDE4, you can keep your KDE4. Nobody is going to force an update on you," said the PCLinuxOS developers in the respective forum thread.

PCLinuxOS 64 2016.06 KDE5 now available for public testing

The latest Live ISO build of the upcoming PCLinuxOS 64 2016.06 KDE5 operating system is now available for public testing, and according to the release notes published by the developer, the problematic 42_efi file has been removed, along with the qt-update-notifier package, and the /sbin and /usr/sbin paths have been added to the user path.

You can download PCLinuxOS 64 2016.06 KDE5 right now via our website, but please try to keep in mind that it is still a pre-release version, which means that some known, unresolved issues are present. The final release of PCLinuxOS 64 2016.06 KDE5 should arrive shortly, and it already looks gorgeous.
