Paradox has just revealed the next installment in the Crusader Kings saga – Crusader Kings III. The sequel to the classic medieval simulator about conquest, intrigue, religion and high drama will make its debut on PC next year and it will be included in Xbox Game Pass, so if you're a subscriber, you'll be able to play it for free.

The upcoming game promises a few improvements over the predecessor, including new 3D character models and an even more detailed map. Just like in the previous games, Crusader Kings III will allow players to guide unique characters through history, choosing lifestyles best fit their personalities and ambitions.

Crusader Kings III is a grand medieval simulator where you are free to live out any plausible ruler fantasy that we could think of - but not without challenge. Seeing its predecessor explode in popularity was very satisfying, especially considering that user-friendliness was never our primary goal. Now we have a chance to address an even larger audience,” says Henrik Fåhraeus, the Game Director.

Depending on how you rule, dynasties will change and adapt. Crusader Kings III will offer guided advice to newcomers to the series, which will make their journey through the rich medieval world more entertaining.

Naturally, players can continue to scheme against their family members to keep a stubborn council in line or marry the rich or pious duke or duchess. Not much else is known about the game, but Paradox promises that more details about the features of Crusader Kings III will be unveiled in the next few months.

Besides revealing its new grand strategy role-playing game, Paradox announced that the base game of Crusader Kings II is now free on all platforms where it can be purchased. Also, Crusader Kings II players can join The Monarch's Journey, a series of custom challenges for the game that will unlock in-game rewards upon completion.
