Microsoft announced the Surface Duo dual-screen Android phone in late 2019, promising the device would be released in the holiday season of this year.

But according to people familiar with the matter, the Surface Duo is already prepared for launch, and it could be launched rather sooner than later.

For example, it’s believed the Duo could get the go-ahead sometime this month, as Microsoft wants to launch its device before Samsung introduces the new Galaxy Fold in early August.

But while this happens, the best thing we can do is simply drool over the Surface Duo that Microsoft’s Chief Product Officer Panos Panay keeps posting online every once in a while.

Panay, who is the man who turned Surface into the strong brand that it is today, keeps showing off the Surface Duo that he uses on a regular basis. And this time, the device also seems to be using a protective bumper, albeit for now it’s not known if Microsoft plans to sell such accessories or not.

Dead on arrival?

One of the most important questions that are yet to be answered concerns the hardware side of the Surface Duo. The device was presented with a Snapdragon 855 processor, which is already an old chip that is no longer used on new-generation flagships.

If Microsoft indeed equips the Surface Duo with this previous-generation processor, there’s a chance many could consider it outdated and would rather go for other foldable devices, including the one coming from Samsung.

For the time being, however, the Surface Duo remains a new cool product that most people are super-excited about. Especially as it’s Microsoft’s first Android device, that is, and all these teasers do nothing more than to confirm that the company itself is eager to release it to the market as well.
