While publishers and developers are preparing for PAX East, which is set to take place between February 27 and March 1, Focus Home Interactive decided to reveal one of their new games that will be showcased at the gaming event: Othercide.

Described as a tactical RPG, Othercide is a game developed by Lightbulb Crew and Focus Home Interactive and is due this summer on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The reveal trailer shows very little combat, but the world and the monsters do seem to be inspired by the Dark Souls universe.

According to developers, combat is “an intricate dance of spectacular actions and counters.” Othercide uses a so-called Dynamic Timeline System, which lets players plan ahead of time and set up chains of abilities in an attempt to outsmart and outdamage the enemy.

The game promises “epic boss battles against the sources of Suffering, dread creatures pulled from the worst of Humanity's crimes against itself.” Each boss brings its own twist to the story, which is told through memories about the Mother and how this frightening reality came to pass.

Just like in all souls-like games, you need to be good at combat, since your prowess in this aspect will get to win boss fights and progress the story. Apparently, “cowardice will be punished,” which suggests that the best way to overcome the challenges the game throws at you is to bet everything on attack.

Memories that are obtained from re-enacting the actions of these creatures' progenitor can change and improve each skill through customization, allowing players to fine-tune their armies to fit their playstyle.

In Othercide, you'll control three daughters, but one of the mechanics in the game will let you sacrifice one to heal another. The one healed will also get much more powerful, thus making the next fights a little bit easier. Othercide will be present at PAX East next week, so we'll probably learn more about the game very soon, stay tuned.
