14 DAY TRIAL // Exec Survey and iGov Survey conducted a study highlighting how more than 200 individual companies are enabling seamless business continuity in the United Kingdom amidst rapid societal change. The survey also analyzed common security challenges today, and what policies and procedures are to be prioritize in the next 6 months, says Help Net Security.
Despite the rapid shift to digital, most organizations lack a strategy for implementation: with the speed of deployment critical to workplace productivity, 75% of organizations adopted Teams without sufficient governance or security, leaving them open to internal and external threats.
IT teams are confident in the security of their collaboration, with 95% believing they meet internal and external requirements. Only 7% were unsure that their digital collaboration implementation was secure against data leaks and unauthorized access.
The study also revealed that only about a quarter of all companies perform standard governance, compliance, and security tasks:
- Only 28% annually review Teams settings and membership to identify potential issues.
- Only 25% remove guest users, while 22% can determine who has access to specific data for audits, and only 13% can recover individual files that have been deleted for a year or more.
John Peluso, CPO at AvePoint, and Microsoft Regional Director said, “While the speed at which many organizations pivoted to the cloud this year was nothing short of amazing, that may have come with major security trade-offs".
Only 3% of companies do not use Teams
Microsoft counts over 145 million daily active Teams users, with only 3% of organizations not using Teams nowadays. Furthermore, regular use of Office 365 has increased from 48% pre-pandemic to 76% currently.
The use of Teams is driving demand for collaboration security, but barriers remain. Despite the increasing use of new digital communication platforms, 43% of organizations say compliance is difficult to achieve. In fact, 37% intend to invest in Teams governance and management in the future to minimize the burden on IT. Not only should this make it more secure, but it may help comply with regional and industry rules, such as records, which only 23% of organizations capture in Teams.
IT teams met with increased demand: 48% of IT teams in organizations take hours or days to develop digital workspaces such as Teams or SharePoint when employees are looking for them, which can lead to low adoption and shadow IT. As a result of the expanded tasks, the biggest difficulty for 56% of firms is the increased workload.
