The browser has received a new big feature

Opera isn’t necessarily the world’s most popular browser, but this doesn’t mean it can’t be the one that’s occasionally coming with pretty cool innovations.

This time, Opera has introduced paste protection, a new feature whose purpose is exactly the one you can easily figure out by reading its name.

Paste protection keeps an eye on the content you keep in the clipboard, as some apps or websites may attempt to read the data, and thus some critical data could end up being exposed.

Just think of credit card information or things like that, so when you shop online, it’s important to have an advanced arsenal of software to protect your data. Opera can do this now with paste protection, as it can display a warning when someone tries to change to data in the clipboard.

Hello, paste protection!

“Opera 84 has just made browsing and online payments even safer with our new Paste Protection feature. Whenever you copy-paste any sensitive data, like a credit card number or crypto wallet identifier, you run the risk of it being hijacked and modified by some bad actors who want your money to land in their accounts instead,” the company explains.

“Paste Protection protects you from this. When you copy sensitive data in Opera Browser, the data is monitored for changes for some time or until you paste the data. If the data is changed by an external application, a warning is displayed.”

Needless to say, this new feature is available on all supported platforms, so no matter if you’re running the browser on Windows, Linux, or macOS, Opera comes with paste protection.

Of course, this latest update to Opera 84 also includes a series of other tweaks and improvements, so if you’re running an older build of the browser, just make sure you update to benefit from all these goodies available in the stable channel.
