OnePlus has started rolling out the OxygenOS 5.0.3 incremental update for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T Android-powered smartphones with a bunch of improvements and long-anticipated features.

Based on the Android 8.0 Oreo, the OxygenOS 5.0.3 software update for the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T smartphones brings all the latest security updates Google released earlier this month with the May 2018 Android Security Patch. It also implements the Face Unlock feature that would let owners of these devices to unlock them with their face.

The Face Unlock feature is similar to Apple's Face ID functionality implemented in the iPhone X smartphone, but it's software-based, which means that it can be easily ported to previous models. There were numerous OnePlus 3 and 3T users asking for Face Unlock, which was first introduced with the OnePlus 5T, and now they can finally enjoy it on their devices as OnePlus promised to deliver.

"For those who were on previous versions for OnePlus 3 and 3T, we appreciate your active feedback and attempts to reach out to us. With your help, we have been able to better optimize and improve several key areas. Thank you for your patience, and as always, we look forward to hearing your continued feedback," Manu J., Beta Program and Dev Relations at OnePlus said in a recent forum post.

Launcher, Gallery, Weather, and File Manager apps receive improvements

Also new in the OxygenOS 5.0.3 software update, the Launcher received a revamped Shelf UI design, along with redesigned App shortcuts and support for additional options when long-pressing an icon. The Gallery app was improved as well, with a new "Recently Deleted" collection, support for sharing photos to Shot-On-OnePlus, and the ability to view photos on the map, in Places, by location.

The Weather app also received a new widget for the Launcher, better location positioning accuracy, and optimizations to the refresh interval for displaying updated weather information. Lastly, OxygenOS 5.0.3 updates the File Manager with a new "Large files" category. The update is now rolling out to OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T users worldwide, but it will take a few days to arrive to everyone.
