Users recommended to update as soon as possible

Windows 11 is projected to start rolling out to the very first non-Insider devices as soon as the next week, but needless to say, Microsoft will continue to ship preview builds to testers in an attempt to get feedback and improve new features which at one point could be released to all users as well.

Worth knowing if you’re part of the Windows Insider program is that you need to update to a newer Windows 11 build until the end of the next month, as Microsoft has issued a warning that older releases would expire in October.

Windows 11 builds older than 22468 would expire on October 31, Microsoft says, and to prevent this from happening, the only thing you need to do is to update to a newer build.

“We have updated the build expiration for Dev Channel builds starting with Build 22468 to be 9/15/2022. Previous Dev Channel builds from the RS_PRERELEASE branch will expire on 10/31/2021. To avoid hitting this expiration, please update to Build 22468 today,” Microsoft explains.

Windows 11 rolling out beginning October 5

On the other hand, those who no longer want to run Windows 11 preview builds can simply leave the Insider program and stick with the stable version launching next week.

Microsoft says the rollout will take place in waves and will continue until the summer of 2022 when it’s projected to come to an end for all eligible devices.

“Windows 11 will start to become available on October 5, 2021. On this day, the free upgrade to Windows 11 will begin rolling out to eligible Windows 10 PCs and PCs that come pre-loaded with Windows 11 will start to become available for purchase. A new Windows experience, Windows 11 is designed to bring you closer to what you love,” Microsoft originally announced.
