It’s not a secret that Nokia is working on a true flagship that may launch soon as Nokia 9, and until this happens, small details keep swirling around indicating that this time, the company wants to build a high-end device by all means.

One possible indicator that the Nokia 9 could be positioned as an iPhone killer is the price, as HMD, the company that saved Nokia from extinction, might make the upcoming flagship a super-expensive model.

Nokia hasn’t been exactly a pioneer of premium devices until now, but a $990 model should help set a new standard, at least for this brand. Because this is exactly what the Nokia 9 could cost when it launches later this year, which is nearly the price of the iPhone X for the base configuration in the United States.

While a high-end smartphone priced at nearly $1,000 isn’t shocking news, it’s more important for the Nokia 9 to actually be worth that much. It goes without saying that the Nokia brand doesn’t have the premium image of Apple, so what HMD needs to do is fit top hardware on its smartphone in order to make sure that it sells well.

This means there’s a good chance the Nokia 9 will simply excel when it comes to hardware specs, possibly using the latest in terms of Qualcomm chips, coupled with 6GB or even 8GB RAM and a super-capable camera.

And speaking of the camera, there are several rumors as to the configuration that Nokia 9 could use, with some people indicating that the device may come with no less than five different lenses.

Of course, you should take everything with a pinch of salt, including the said pricing, as a truly expensive Nokia device would have a hard time selling in high numbers unless it comes with something truly compelling.
