Report claims the Unpacked event goes digital

Samsung is projected to take the wraps off the Galaxy Note20, and possibly the Galaxy Fold 2, in August, and despite the company not yet announcing the release date, the big honchos at the South Korean phone maker are still struggling to determine the best way to announce the two devices.

This dilemma is caused by the global health crisis which has made many companies rethink their product plans, and Samsung is one of the tech giants that are still unsure if a physical event in August is possible.

A report from South Korean media, on the other hand, indicates that the company has already made a decision, and the Galaxy Note20 and Galaxy Fold 2 would be announced with a digital event.

In other words, the Unpacked event that Samsung is projected to announce for August would only take place online, as the company gives up on physical events plans for obvious reasons.

No official word yet

This decision isn’t necessarily surprising, as pretty much all the other companies out there have done the same thing because of the same health crisis.

Microsoft, for example, kicked off the Build developer conference earlier this week, and all sessions take place online with no physical audience. For many, this isn’t very convenient given Build is Microsoft’s biggest event every year, but it’s pretty much the only way to go these days.

And the same for Samsung. Unpacked is Samsung’s flagship event that takes place two times every year and which the company uses to announce the new Galaxy S and Galaxy Note models. This year, however, the Galaxy Note20 announcement is likely to be all digital, so we will probably have to stick with our laptops to find out everything about the new model.

Samsung has so far remained tight-lipped on its plans for the Galaxy Note20, so a certain amount of skepticism is definitely recommended.
