Microsoft has confirmed that no new Windows 10 version 21H2 would go live this week in the Dev Channel, as the company says the current candidate wasn’t ready to ship.

In other words, insiders need to wait one more week to get their hands on a new testing build, as the company says it’d return to its typical release calendar next week.

“This week's Dev Channel build candidate wasn't ready to take off, so we're cancelling the flight for this week. We'll be back at it next week,” the company says.

Windows Insiders in the Dev channel are provided with Windows 10 21H2 builds, which are a preview of the upcoming feature update due in the fall.

What’s next for Windows 10

The next Windows 10 feature update, however, is the 21H1 release due in the spring of this year. But as compared to 21H2, this particular update will be just a small set of improvements delivered just like a monthly quality update.

“Based on feedback and learnings during the past year of extensive remote work, learning and play, version 21H1 will be delivered with servicing technology (like that used for the monthly update process and how 20H2 was delivered).  Windows 10, version 21H1 will have a scoped set of features improving security, remote access and quality. The features we are releasing in this update are focused on the core experiences that customers have told us they’re relying on most right now. So, we optimized this release to support our customers’ most pressing needs,” Microsoft said recently.

According to the company’s typical release calendar, this new Windows 10 feature update is projected to reach the RTM any day now, with the final build to be shipped to insiders first before the production launch in late April or May.
