Blood pressure and glucose readings very unlikely

The Apple Watch Pro is Apple’s big surprise in terms of new smartwatches this year, and people familiar with the matter claim this device will come with massive upgrades on almost every front.

Including in terms of new features, that is, though as it turns out, the device wouldn’t come with any new major sensors.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says the Apple Watch Pro will indeed sport a body temperature sensor, but on the other hand, this is unlikely to be exclusive to the Pro model. This means the standard Apple Watch Series 8 will have the same capabilities.

On the other hand, if you were expecting a blood pressure monitoring sensor, this is very unlikely to see the daylight on the upcoming device.

In fact, it looks like the technology is far from ready for prime time, with Gurman explaining that this particular sensor wouldn’t be ready until 2025.

Larger display, rugged case

Another feature that was supposed to make the Apple Watch Pro as innovative as possible was the glucose measurements, but according to the same report, this particular feature would take even longer to reach the final development stage.

The glucose sensor would only be ready towards the end of the decade, so it’s impossible to see it going live on the upcoming Apple Watch models.

Elsewhere, the Apple Watch Pro will come with a larger display, allowing Apple to display more information and to include a set of new exclusive complications. Given the Apple Watch Pro will be specially aimed at people who work out regularly, the device will come with a more rugged case to make it overall more durable.

All in all, the Apple Watch Pro will probably stand out from the crowd thanks to its slightly revised design and the larger display, but in terms of functionality, there’s a good chance the magic will come down to the software powering it.
