Next iOS update to support all iPhone models still alive

Apple is projected to take the wraps off iOS 14 in the fall of this year, and naturally, some people believe this would be the end of another set of old iPhone models.

In other words, many expect iOS 14 to only be available for iPhone 7 and newer, which means the iPhone 6s would just stick with iOS 13 for ever.

But that’s not really what’s going to happen, a report from The Verifier indicates, as Apple doesn’t want to leave any iPhone behind this year. So if you’re still using an iPhone 6s or the original iPhone SE, you’ll still get the update to iOS 14 this year.

iOS 14 preview coming soon

This is undoubtedly good news for those sticking with older iPhone models, but at the same time, keep in mind that the full experience would only be possible on the latest devices. So while the iPhone 6s would still be updated to iOS 14, you won’t be getting all the bells and whistles. If you’re OK with this and you’re not interested in everything this update is supposed to bring, then you should be just fine.

While iOS 14 will go live for production devices in September, Apple is expected to preview the new update later this month at WWDC (the event will only take place online, so it’ll be available for everyone to watch). Most likely, a first beta version of iOS 14 would also go live shortly after for those who want to try it out ahead of the fall launch.

Of course, it’s important to take this report with a healthy pinch of salt, as there’s a chance Apple’s plans change overnight and the company ends up giving up on the oldest iPhones after all.

For now, there’s nothing confirmed on this front, so we’ll finally hear more about the update at WWDC shortly.
