At least, not for now, Microsoft explains in a statement

Microsoft is working on bringing Android apps on Windows 11, and while this feature wouldn’t be available on day one when the operating system launches next month, a recent listing in the Microsoft Store confirmed this ambitious release isn’t very far either.

Called the Windows Subsystem for Android, the Microsoft Store listing also suggested that Microsoft could end up bringing Android apps to Xbox as well, something that the Redmond-based software giant itself hasn’t officially announced.

But as it turns out, the company doesn’t necessarily want to bring Android apps to Xbox. Or at least, not right now, Microsoft told WindowsCentral in a statement.

Android apps on Windows 11

In the meantime, Microsoft is working around the clock on bringing Android apps to Windows 11, though an ETA hasn’t been shared just yet.

Android apps on Windows 11 will be powered by the Amazon Appstore and listed in the Microsoft Store.

“Starting later this year, people will be able to discover Android apps in the Microsoft Store and download them through the Amazon Appstore – imagine recording and posting a video from TikTok or using Khan Academy Kids for virtual learning right from your PC. We’ll have more to share about this experience in the coming months. We look forward to this partnership with Amazon and Intel using their Intel Bridge technology,” Microsoft originally announced.

Windows 11 is projected to start rolling out to the first eligible devices on October 5, but Android app support wouldn’t be available at launch.

However, Microsoft has already confirmed that it still wants to bring this feature to Windows 11 users at a later time, though for the time being, no specifics have been provided as to when this could happen. Most likely, however, the feature will go live for insiders in the coming months.
