The upcoming iPhone 13 due in the fall will arrive alongside a new operating system that will be available for older smartphones too, and according to a tipster, there’s a chance Apple is planning some pretty big updates going forward.

Called iOS 15, the upcoming OS update is likely to come with dark mode UI teaks, according to Connor Jewiss on Twitter. Worth knowing is that the information doesn’t come from a reliable tipster with a solid track on Apple scoops, so you should take everything with a pinch of salt for now.

The dark mode improvements, however, haven’t been detailed, so it remains to be seen what the tipster is actually referring to. However, he also claims that additional improvements are also planned for the Messages app, but this isn’t necessarily something totally surprising given Apple has further refined iMessage on pretty much every occasion when new iOS versions came out.

But what’s more interesting is that the tipster claims iOS 15 would also introduce “new notification settings and look on lockscreen.”

While no further specifics have been provided, an overhaul to the notification system would certainly come in handy, especially because previous reports have indicated that Apple is believed to be working on more customization options based on current activity or time.

As for what devices will get iOS 15, there’s a chance Apple drops the iPhone 6s, so in theory, only the iPhone 7 and newer would receive the update to the new operating system. But of course, this hasn’t been confirmed just yet, though the change would make sense given iPhone 6s has already received so many OS updates since launch.

Apple is likely to provide us with an early look at iOS 15 at the WWDC event in June, so more information is just around the corner.
